The Toddler Room at Mulberry Bush Day Nursery

Where little explorers find their feet

Building confidence and encouraging curiosity

Our toddler room is designed especially for children aged 2–3 years, a stage filled with rapid development, growing independence and a strong desire to explore the world around them. Our experienced and dedicated team supports each child through this exciting phase with warmth, patience and enthusiasm.

All staff are fully qualified and DBS and reference-checked prior to joining our team. They are chosen not only for their experience but also for their bubbly and positive personalities, helping children engage with the environment around them.

A space designed for exploration

The toddler room is thoughtfully laid out to allow free movement, interaction and choice. Children can easily access a wide range of age-appropriate toys, resources and activities that support their individual interests and abilities. The environment encourages curiosity, problem-solving and early independence.

We maintain a 1:5 staff-to-child ratio, ensuring toddlers receive close attention, reassurance and support as they learn to manage emotions, develop language and build social skills. In practice, our ratios frequently exceed national guidelines, particularly to ensure appropriate support for children with additional needs.

Learning through play

Our activities follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum and focus on learning through play. We offer a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated free play, allowing children to explore at their own pace while being gently guided by experienced practitioners.

Activities include:

  • Painting, drawing and creative play
  • Role play and dressing up
  • Sand, water and messy play
  • Singing, music and movement
  • Construction toys and puzzles
  • Books, stories and early mark making
  • Outdoor play and physical activities

Activities are regularly refreshed to maintain interest and support concentration.

Monitoring Progress

Your child’s key person carefully observes and records progress, adapting activities to suit your child’s developmental needs. Learning is documented through observations, photographs, artwork and learning journals, which are always available for you to view and discuss. Parents’ evenings provide formal opportunities to share progress, and we warmly welcome parental input to build a complete picture of your child’s development.

We can't wait to welcome you and your toddler for a visit.

We are confident you and your child will feel right at home as soon as you step through the door.
